January

January has already flown by, and it's hard to believe that I'll be done with my master's in less than three months! After returning from a long overdue holiday break, we dove back into our Brain and Behavior course material. Most of the lectures reviewed topics we touched upon in December, so the first exam after returning was a smooth transition into the school year. In addition, we also started a few new elective courses for the spring, my favorite of which is a class on how stress affects our bodies in different ways. We also have courses on Advanced Topics in Cardiobiology, Cell Control Mechanisms, and Environmental Signaling, all of which are introducing me to the various fields in which knowledge of pharmacology is applicable. As I'm starting to think about opportunities for my upcoming gap year, I'm hoping that I'll be able to find a position that allows me to apply my degree in an interesting way!

Overall, the semester is starting out relatively slow, but I know that it will get busier the closer we get to graduation! In addition to studying for new material in Med Pharm, the NBME shelf exam is approaching in a little over a month, so I will start reviewing material from the beginning of July, which should be interesting to revisit now that I have a much greater understanding of pharmacology than when I started. I'm also taking the MCAT in May, so preparing for the test will be another hurdle, but I'm just trying to chip away one step at a time!

In addition to school, I've continued my weekly volunteering with Edible Schoolyard! Luckily I was able to adapt my volunteering schedule to better work with classes this semester, and I'm really glad that I still have time to work with the organization.
