October

Happy Halloween!!

It's hard to believe that the month of October is almost over! This month, we completed the Pulmonary/Inflammation block, and we're currently in the process of preparing for the GI/Hepatic/Neoplasia block exam. In the Pulmonary/Inflammation block, we learned about disorders affecting the lungs as well as those pertaining to inflammation in the body. The Med Pharm concepts continued to be very relevant and interesting, but I struggled the most with the concepts taught in Principles and Molecular and Cellular Pharm. I found it very difficult to learn specific laboratory techniques from lectures alone, as I feel that is something better understood through personal experience.

On an different note, October has been one of my favorite months in New Orleans thus far! After the Pulmonary/Inflammation exam, my parents came to visit New Orleans for a long weekend, and I had fun playing tourist with them for a few days! Some of the highlights of the weekend included good food and a ghost tour in the French Quarter, which I thought was a perfect way to celebrate the completion of my exam! In addition, I enjoyed the Halloween festivities this month, as there were multiple parades and other events happening around the city. The weather has also cooled off to a more tolerable temperature, so I'm enjoying wearing some of my fall clothes again!

For my volunteering this month, I assisted with the UNCF 2017 Walk for Education, which helps African American students attend and graduate from college. The event featured music, food vendors, dance performances from local universities, and a 5K walk/run through Audubon Park. Along with 6 of my classmates, we helped set up the event in the morning, then were tasked with promoting a social media hashtag for the students to use throughout the walk. At the end of the day, we were one of the only groups remaining for cleanup, so we helped pack up all the tables and chairs used during the event.
